Senior Backend Software Engineer (PHP/Python)
We are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer with deep expertise in PHP and Python to join our WP Rocket Addons team. You will design and lead technical projects from conception through delivery, balancing architectural decisions with practical execution, to deliver working products to hundreds of thousands of users. You thrive in an environment where quality, testing, and AI-driven development are non-negotiable. Location: Remote (UTC+3 to UTC-5)
Hours: Flexible; core hours around 2PM CET (±2 hours)

Key Responsibilities
Architect and implement backend solutions for WP Rocket Addons services, including user-facing features, e-commerce platforms, and internal tooling.
Lead technical projects end-to-end: design decisions, implementation strategy, testing approach, and delivery
Build and maintain services handling hundreds of thousands of users, with a focus on performance, reliability, and observability
Champion automated testing and code validation; ensure code quality and reliability through comprehensive test suites
Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to identify the best technical approaches and deliver user-focused solutions
Use AI as a development partner: leverage AI for framing, code generation, code review, testing and documentation, while maintaining human oversight on architecture and quality
Contribute to continuous improvement of internal systems, tooling, AI systems, and engineering practices
Participate in code review, deployment, and operational support for the services you build
Required Experience
Technical Skills
Solid, proven experience building and maintaining PHP and Python applications
Modern development practices: OOP, testing (unit, integration, end-to-end), observability (monitoring, logging, tracing)
Comfortable with DevOps basics: Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure concepts
Experience designing systems for scale and reliability
Familiarity with AI-driven development: delegating low-risk tasks to AI with harness approaches and using AI as an assistant on more complex topics
