Lead UX Designer

  • On-site, Hybrid
  • Praha
  • Full-time

Hello, we’re Datamole: a friendly data & AI company of 100+ people. We’re a mix of data scientists, data engineers, and fullstack developers. We develop custom AI, IoT & UI solutions for industrial companies in agriculture, machinery or biotech

We are now looking for our first Lead UX Designer to join our application development department in Prague.

Your Role:

This is the first UX position at Datamole. Until now our engineers have handled UX themselves, on instinct, alongside writing the code. Delivery has been solid. What we have never done is invest in UX properly. There are no agreed methods, no shared guidelines, and no direct contact with the people who use what we build. Setting that up is the job.

You will build the practice and use it at the same time. Building it means deciding how we do UX, writing that down, and teaching our engineers to do it. Using it means taking real work on client projects and showing the team how it is done.

In the first year the emphasis is on setup. Defining baselines and best practices, introducing discovery activities into running client engagements, and taking specific initiatives yourself to show the team how the work is done properly. Once the basics hold, the balance shifts toward contributing to project delivery.

The goal is a more UX-capable department, not a single person who owns all UX. You will coach engineers to do this work rather than doing it for them.

Your Team:

You will join our application development department, where we build custom web-based applications for industrial clients. It is made up of full-stack developers, project leads, and solution architects.

Projects You Will Work On:

You will work on long-term projects that our customers use worldwide, such as:

  • 🚜 Agriculture insight application: Advise farmers with data-driven insights to optimize farm management and productivity.

  • Coffee machine portal: Provide insights into customer behavior and enable remote management of coffee machines.

  • 🧪Food ingredient optimization portal: Enhance food product formulations through chemical reaction optimization.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Decide how we do UX: the methods, the guidelines, and the steps a project actually follows

  • Teach our engineers, through workshops, working side by side, and feedback on their real work

  • Run discovery on client projects

  • Get us in front of users. Today we hear from product owners and subject-matter experts instead. Building that contact, client by client, is part of the job

  • Build prototypes with AI coding tools

You Should Have:

  • At least 5 years of experience in UX design

  • Set up UX practice somewhere it did not exist before

  • Led discovery yourself: chosen the methods, run the sessions, talked to real users

  • Confidence in front of customers

  • Skills needed for mentoring

  • Business proficiency in Czech and English

Nice to Have:

  • Background in an agency or consultancy, on long client engagements

  • Hands-on experience with AI prototyping tools

  • Experience getting a client to work differently than they have for years

  • Interest in AI, IoT, and industrial work

Good to Know:

  • Our customers bring their own brand and design system, and we build on top of it. This role is about making software clear and usable, not about visual style

  • We work project by project, with scope, budgets, and deadlines. This is not a single product you keep refining against a dashboard of metrics

Tools We Work With:

  • AI coding and prototyping tools, Claude Code among them

  • Figma

  • Jira and Confluence

  • Google Workspace

We expect you to tell us what else this work needs.
