We are Liquid Schwartz — a fun, energetic platform team of five focused on software delivery. Our name comes from the special fuel that made rockets fly faster in the legendary 1987 Spaceballs movie, and it captures our mission perfectly: make every engineer at Transcarent ship faster and more seamlessly. We are distributed across three locations — Prague (CZ), Plymouth Meeting (PA, USA), and Vancouver (BC, CA) — and this position is based in Prague.
About the Role:
Our goal is to give every engineer at Transcarent the tools and automation they need to ship confidently — without waiting on another team. We build and maintain a self-service delivery platform: reusable pipelines, shared libraries, and integrated tooling that engineering teams consume directly. We don’t run pipelines for other teams; we design the platform so they can own their delivery end-to-end.
We work closely with engineering teams to understand their needs and translate them into scalable, reliable platform capabilities. The focus is always on removing friction, codifying best practices, and enabling teams to move faster on their own.
As a Senior Software Design Engineer, you’ll drive projects, shape the direction of the platform, and act as a trusted partner to engineering teams — helping them help themselves.
What You Will Do:
- Work in an Agile environment (ScrumBan, 2-week sprints) alongside onsite and remote colleagues, participating in daily stand-ups and other ceremonies while applying lean practices.
- Design, develop, and test new features and integrations for our delivery pipelines using Python, Groovy, and TypeScript.
- Partner with Transcarent engineering teams to support adoption and effective use of our tooling and platforms.
- Collaborate with other platform teams on larger, cross-cutting initiatives.
- Lead projects end-to-end — from planning, design, and work breakdown through implementation, rollout, demo, and evangelism.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve the reliability of tooling owned by our team.
- Manage relationships with third-party vendors (e.g., CloudBees, JFrog, GitHub, Postman) — participate in contract renewals, lead vendor meetings, provide feedback, and plan professional service engagements.
- Stay current with emerging trends and technologies, bring innovations to the team, and champion them through the prioritization process.
- Mentor colleagues within and beyond the team.
What You Bring:
You’re the kind of engineer who treats a platform as a product — you think about the consuming developer, not just the pipeline. If you’ve ever been frustrated by a slow, opaque CI/CD setup and thought "I could make this so much better," you’ll fit right in.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in a platform engineering, DevOps, or developer tooling role. Background in developer experience (DevEx) or internal platform product work — bonus points if you’ve thought of internal tooling as a product with real users.
- Prior experience withscripting in at least one of: Python, Java/Groovy, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD principles and real experience building or maintaining delivery pipelines — not just using them.
- Experience with cloud platforms — preferably AWS.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Understanding of the full software lifecycle from design through deployment to production support.
- Familiarity with software quality methodologies and SDLC best practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English — you can explain a pipeline architecture to a VP and debug a YAML issue with a junior dev in the same afternoon.
- Comfortable working in a distributed, multi-timezone Agile team — async communication doesn’t scare you.
- A collaborative mindset — you give and receive constructive feedback readily and genuinely enjoy making other engineers’ lives easier.
Nice to have:
- Exposure to observability and monitoring tools (ELK, Datadog, Grafana, CloudWatch).
- Experience managing or integrating third-party developer tools.
